Twenty-Four Small Doors: A Considered Guide to This Year’s Advent Calendars

Twenty-four small doors: a curated guide to this year's advent calendars, with an abstract grid of small gilded doors, one open

Last updated: October 2026

December has a way of vanishing. It starts with good intentions on the first and ends with you wrapping something at midnight on the twenty-third, wondering where the evenings went.

An advent calendar is a small, stubborn argument against that. One door. One evening. Twenty-four times. A sex toy advent calendar just makes that argument about the part of your life that usually gets pushed to January.

Think of it less like a present and more like a slow-burning candle. A single gift is a moment. A calendar is a month of small moments, and the habit of making time is the real thing you are giving. Below, we walk through the three calendars we chose for 2026, what is actually behind the doors, and who each one is wrong for. Then, for anyone who would rather give one considered thing than twenty-four small ones, three single gifts from Womanizer and We-Vibe that arrived at the same time.

What makes an advent calendar different from a gift set

A gift set hands you everything at once. A calendar hands you a pace.

That sounds like a small distinction. It is not. The season is crowded. In a Harris Poll for the American Psychological Association, 89% of US adults said something about the holidays causes them stress, and intimacy is usually the first thing that quietly falls off the list when the calendar fills up.

A door a night does something a box of toys cannot. It gives you a reason to come back to each other, or to yourself, on an ordinary Tuesday. The surprise is small on purpose. Nobody is asked to plan an evening; you just open the next door and see.

Try this: decide before December 1 when the door gets opened. Right after dinner, last thing before sleep, the first ten minutes in bed. A fixed time turns a novelty into a ritual, and rituals survive busy weeks.

Why this is its own kind of gift

There is research behind the idea that small, new experiences matter more than big ones. In a well-known set of studies, social psychologist Arthur Aron and colleagues found that couples who did something novel together reported a bigger lift in relationship quality than couples who did something familiar, even when the new activity lasted only a few minutes.

A calendar is that finding, boxed and numbered. Some doors will be things you already know you like. Some will be things neither of you would have bought on purpose, and those are often the ones that start the best conversations.

It also depends, and that is worth saying plainly. If you know exactly what you want, a calendar will frustrate you, because roughly a third of any calendar will be pieces you would not have chosen. If one of you is new to all of this, a door holding restraints or a paddle can feel like a lot. And if you need a gift that can be returned, a calendar is a poor choice: once a door is opened, the set counts as opened under our returns policy.

None of that makes a calendar a bad gift. It makes it a specific one.

What to look for in a sex toy advent calendar

The price on the box tells you very little. What matters is what you will still be reaching for in January, and whether the doors match the people opening them.

The anchor pieces: what you will keep using after December

Every good calendar is built around two or three proper toys, with smaller pieces filling the doors in between. Look at the anchors first. A rechargeable toy from an established maker will outlast the season; a handful of single-use sachets will not.

All three of our calendars are anchored by a rechargeable mini wand plus at least one named toy: a Womanizer Starlet 3, a Lovehoney Indulge, or a Womanizer Liberty 2 alongside a We-Vibe Sync Lite.

Twelve doors or twenty-four

Twenty-four doors is the classic shape, and it is a real commitment in a month already full of plans. Twelve doors is easier to keep, and it leaves room for nights that belong to other people.

Try this: if you are giving a twelve-door calendar, suggest starting on December 13 so the last door falls on Christmas Eve.

Solo, shared, or both

This is the question that matters most, and the box rarely answers it clearly. Read the contents list and count. A calendar full of cock rings, strokers and position cards is built for two. One built around a G-spot toy, kegel balls and a wand leans toward one body.

If you are unsure, our guide to choosing pleasure toys that actually fit your body is a good place to sort out what each of you actually wants before buying anything for two.

How far the doors lean

Two of our three calendars include restraint and impact pieces: a blindfold, rope or cuffs, a paddle. For some couples that is the most exciting part of the box. For others it is a door they would rather leave closed.

If those doors are new to you, read our piece on safe words and consent in restraint play before December 1. It takes ten minutes and makes those nights much easier to enjoy.

The three calendars, door by door

Lovehoney x Womanizer Enjoy Advent Calendar 2026 (24 Days) · $159.99 CAD

Pink 24-door advent calendar box surrounded by its contents, including a pink air-pulse toy, rope, a feather tickler and a card game, on a teal background

The broadest of the three, and the one that works for either a couple or one person. Its anchor is a Womanizer Starlet 3, a palm-sized air-pulse toy in body-safe silicone, with a rechargeable mini wand and a battery bullet that takes interchangeable sleeves.

The other doors range widely on purpose: a blindfold, feather tickler, paddle and five metres of rope; a suction-cup dildo, anal beads and an egg stroker; massage oil, lube and toy wipes; and a dice game and position cards for the nights you would rather not plan.

Best for: curious couples who like a surprise, or someone who wants to try a bit of everything. Not for: anyone who would rather skip restraint and impact entirely.

Lovehoney Indulge Advent Calendar 2026 (12 Days) · $199.99 CAD

Purple 12-door advent calendar box with a magenta curved vibrator, black kegel balls, a mini wand and small care products arranged in front

Twelve doors, and a clear lean toward one body. The centrepiece is the Lovehoney Indulge, a silicone toy shaped to reach the G-spot and the clitoris together. Alongside it are a rechargeable mini wand and a remote-controlled, USB-rechargeable bullet with three silicone sleeves.

Lovehoney’s own listing gives that bullet three speeds and seven patterns, and puts the kegel balls in the set at 85 grams. Those are the only performance figures the listing publishes for anything in this calendar, which is common for kits like this and worth knowing before you compare boxes.

The quieter doors are care, not novelty: a pelvic-floor set, a crystal plug, nipple suckers and body jewellery, a menthol balm, lube and wipes. If the kegel balls are new to you, our guide to kegel balls and pelvic floor trainers covers how to start gently.

Sexuality educator Emily Nagoski puts the idea at the heart of a calendar like this in four words: “pleasure is the measure.” Not performance, not novelty. Whether it feels good to you.

Best for: a gift to yourself, or to someone who would rather explore alone. Not for: couples looking for something to share most nights.

Lovehoney x Womanizer x We-Vibe Couple’s Advent Calendar 2026 (24 Days) · $289.99 CAD

Red 24-door couples advent calendar box with cuffs, a satin blindfold, a red air-pulse toy and small accessories arranged on a blue background

The one built for two, and the only one of the three with a wearable couples vibrator inside. It carries three proper toys rather than one: a Womanizer Liberty 2 with its own travel case, a We-Vibe Sync Lite that you wear during sex and run from the We-Vibe app, and a remote bullet with eight silicone sleeves.

Between them, the doors build a shared vocabulary: a blindfold, wrist and ankle cuffs, hogtie restraints and a paddle; nipple suckers, a lasso ring and a crystal plug; massage oil, balm, lube and wipes; a position card game and a Womanizer ornament for the tree.

Psychotherapist Esther Perel has spent years describing the pull between comfort and desire. In an interview with NPR, she said we all carry a need “for adventure, for novelty, for mystery, for risk” alongside our need for security. This is that tension, numbered from one to twenty-four.

The app means it can also travel: if one of you is away for part of December, the Sync Lite can be run from a distance. Our guide to what app-controlled couples toys actually do explains how that works.

Best for: couples who want December to be about each other. Not for: anyone for whom restraint is firmly off the table. Several doors lean that way. We have only a handful of these, so if this is the one, order it early.

WomanizerA lipstick that isn’t.One button. Six levels. Nothing to explain.$119.99 CADShop the gift

If a calendar is not the right gift

Some people would rather open one beautiful thing than twenty-four small ones. These three arrived alongside the calendars, and each makes a complete gift on its own.

They are also less of a leap than people expect. A national study led by Debby Herbenick at Indiana University found that 52.5% of women had used a vibrator, and that use was linked to better sexual function, not worse. A considered toy is an ordinary gift, chosen well.

Womanizer Beauty · $119.99 CAD

Womanizer Beauty in black and gold, shaped like a lipstick with a red silicone tip

A lipstick that is not a lipstick. The Beauty is shaped, capped and sized like one, and it sits in a makeup bag or a stocking without explaining itself.

Inside is Womanizer’s air-pulse method: a soft silicone head creates gentle waves of air around the clitoris rather than touching it. There is one button and six levels, nothing to set up and nothing to learn. It is about 127 millimetres long, waterproof, and charges by USB-C.

It comes in Green and Pink as well as Black and Gold, identical in everything but colour.

Best for: a first air-pulse toy, or a stocking gift that does not need to be hidden. Not for: someone who wants patterns or a stronger top end.

Womanizer Next Liberty · $159.99 CAD

Womanizer Next Liberty, a rounded rose-toned air-pulse toy with a glossy rim, shown from the front with its control buttons

The step up from the Beauty. Same principle, more control. Alongside its intensity levels, the Next Liberty has separate depth settings, which change how far the pressure waves reach rather than how strong they are. In practice, you can keep things gentle and still change the feel.

It is made to travel, with a magnetic cap that closes over the head and USB-C charging. If you are giving it to someone who already owns a Womanizer, this is the one that feels like an upgrade rather than a repeat.

Best for: someone who knows they like air-pulse and wants more range. Not for: anyone hoping for internal stimulation; it is external only. For the wider picture, our guide on how to choose a vibrator sets air-pulse beside the other options.

We-Vibe Shared Touch · $159.99 CAD

We-Vibe Shared Touch in black silicone beside its retail box

Most couples toys are designed for one body and tolerated by the other. The Shared Touch is shaped for both. One face is ridged to rest against the penis, the other curved to rest against the clitoris, so a single motor reaches both of you together.

It runs from its own buttons or the We-Vibe app, which lets either partner hand over control. It is an external toy, held or pressed between you, and it carries We-Vibe’s two-year warranty.

Best for: the couple who would rather have one shared gift than a month of doors. Not for: anyone after internal stimulation. More couples picks live in our couples vibrators collection.

Timing, privacy and returns: the practical part

Order early. A calendar that arrives on December 4 is a calendar with three doors to catch up on. Every order ships from within Canada, but late November is busy for every carrier. For a December 1 start, order by November 20.

Plan the hiding place. Calendar boxes are large and obviously festive. If you share a home with children or guests over the holidays, decide where it lives before it arrives. Every order comes in plain, unmarked packaging, so the outside of the parcel gives nothing away.

Know the returns rule. Once a door is opened, the calendar counts as opened. Unopened and sealed is a different story. If you are unsure whether it will suit, the single gifts above are the safer choice.

About noise. None of the three calendar listings publishes a noise figure for any toy inside, so we will not invent one. Air-pulse toys and small wands are generally designed for shared homes, but if sound is your main concern, test each toy on its lowest setting the first night.

How to make it feel like a ritual, not a chore

Talk about it on November 30. Five minutes is enough. What are you both curious about? Is anything off the table? Our essay on the conversation before the conversation is a good, low-pressure way in.

Open, then decide. A door is an invitation, not an instruction. Some nights you will use what is behind it straight away. Some nights you will put it on the bedside table and come back to it on the weekend. Both count.

Swap who opens it. Take turns. The person who opens the door chooses whether tonight is for trying it or just for talking about it.

Keep a skip rule. Busy night, bad day, visiting in-laws. Agree in advance that a skipped door simply rolls to the next night. A ritual with no room for real life will not last a week.

Have the basics nearby. Each calendar includes a small lube and wipes, but a full-size water-based lubricant is worth adding to the order. It is safe with every silicone toy in these boxes.

The trade-offs: when a calendar is perfect, and when it is not

It is perfect when you want a reason to make time, you enjoy surprises, and you are comfortable with a few doors that are not quite you. It is especially good for couples who have drifted into a routine and want a gentle, low-stakes way out of it.

It is not right when you already know exactly what you want, you need the option to return it, or one of you would feel pressured by a nightly prompt. In those cases, one well-chosen toy is the kinder gift.

Our intimate wellness gifts for her and our gift guide for nights in are both built for that kind of giver.

The honest summary: you are paying partly for the toys and partly for the format. If the format is the point, a calendar is wonderful. If it is not, buy the toy.

Care and longevity: making December last

The toys worth keeping deserve a little care. Clean each one before its first use and after every use with a gentle toy cleaner or warm water and mild, unscented soap. Let it dry fully before putting it away.

Store silicone toys apart from each other, in the calendar’s own pouches or a soft bag, since silicone can react with silicone. Use water-based lube with them, not silicone-based. Charge rechargeable toys every couple of months even when they are resting, so the battery stays healthy into the new year.

And keep the box. It is the best storage for the smaller pieces, and the doors are oddly satisfying to close again.

Finding your fit

If you have read this far, you probably already know which one it is. If not, here is the short version.

The best thing behind any of these doors is not a toy. It is twenty-four evenings that you decided, in advance, to keep for each other.

Start on the first. See where the month takes you.
